Evan Baehr is a serial founder of venture-backed startups, best-selling author, and father to four—so he’s often tired and/or caffeinated. Baehr is managing partner of Learn Capital.

Previously he cofounded Able, a financial technology company backed by Mike Maples and Peter Thiel, which sold in 2017. Able served the ‘fortune 5,000,000’—the millions of small businesses that create two-thirds of all jobs in the United States—with low interest loans to help them grow. Forbes called Able “capitalism at its best.”

Another previous venture, Outbox, was a startup designed to disrupt the United States Postal Service. After being shut down by the federal government, Baehr was profiled in the Wall Street Journal’s Weekend Interview titled “A Case of Uncreative Destruction.”


He’s Founder of Teneo, a national leadership organization, author of the #1 selling Get Backed from Harvard Business Press, and host of the forthcoming In The Arena TV show celebrating bold founders. Get Backed equips entrepreneurs with the key skills to build a pitch deck and then raise capital to launch a business. Shark Tank’s Barbara Corcoran calls the book a ‘must read’ before pitching on the show. It has equipped over 1 million entrepreneurs.


He has worked for Clarium Capital, a global macro hedge fund, the U.S. House of Representatives as a legislative aide and staff director for the Congressional Human Rights Caucus, and the White House Office of Faith Based Initiatives. He founded the first chapter of the the Adam Smith Society. He is an honors graduate of Princeton University (Woodrow Wilson School), Yale University (MA, Ethics), and Harvard Business School (MBA).

Matthew Barry is a Partner at Learn Capital focused on designing and implementing a framework to understand the societal value of Learn Capital’s investment portfolio and identifying creative applications to leverage the impact of the fund’s ventures to increase their scale and sustainability.

Prior to his current role, Matthew served as Chief Impact Officer at Gary Community Ventures where he was responsible for developing strategy and advancing a data-driven, impact investment approach through the measurement of social impact and risk across philanthropic and market rate investments. He also co-led the design of the organization’s innovation practice and supported the creation of a strategy to build an ecosystem to support entrepreneurs and ventures focused on improving education outcomes. Matthew also led growth and development for Shift Research Lab, providing reliable, unbiased data, research and capacity building to social change organizations that are committed to improving communities across the metro Denver region.


Brook Bisrat is a Partner at Learn Capital. He previously worked as a Macro and Commodities Derivatives Assistant at Infinium Capital Management. During his tenure, he helped found the Macro Team, taught new and established traders technical analysis, and managed portfolios comprised of energy, grain, and soft commodities. Also during his tenure, Infinium had its largest trading revenues in history, producing $200M in profit in 2008. 

Brook also spent time as a Macro Futures Trader and Global Derivatives Technical Analyst at Yellowstone Capital Management and Raven Traders. While there, he established Macro Groups for both organizations and worked closely with multiple portfolio managers, focusing mainly on forecasting models for emerging trends and hedging strategies for internal portfolios. Most recently, he worked on the Sales Operations team at Oscar Health Insurance and Kindred. 

Don Burton has had an interesting career at the cutting edge of education innovation and technology -- primarily launching, scaling, and exiting companies. As a strategic advisor, Don worked with McKinsey & Co. consulting on strategies to launch interactive media business units and how to create open innovation internally; and with Goldman Sachs advising on exits and acquisitions. As an intrapreneur, he has built education startups within large companies such as Walt Disney Company and Kaplan. As an entrepreneur, he has built multiple edtech startups on his own as a founder with a major exit to Kaplan/Washington Post.

He most recently has been a successful edtech investor with a portfolio of more than 30 startups via the seed stage investment platform called Learning Edge, which builds upon his work with Techstars and as an angel investor. Don has run Startup Accelerator programs and has graduated three cohorts which have raised more than $100M in financing and have an estimated market cap of $400M. Don graduated from Harvard Business School and Duke University.

Rebecca Gill is an Executive Assistant & Workplace Manager at Learn Capital. In addition to supporting the Founder & Managing Partner, Rebecca is responsible for the overall coordination of a broad range of services and resources that allows the office & team to run efficiently.

Prior to joining, Rebecca worked with Edmodo, a Learn portfolio company, in people operations, supporting the executive team, and workplace management. Rebecca brings over 20 years of executive & workplace support experience working with technology start ups & investment banks.

Eric Hanushek is the Paul and Jean Hanna Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution of Stanford University. He is internationally recognized for his economic analysis of educational issues, and he received the Yidan Prize for Education Research in 2021. His research has had broad influence on education policy in both developed and developing countries.

He is the author of numerous widely-cited studies on the effects of class size reduction, school accountability, teacher effectiveness, and other topics. He was the first to research teacher effectiveness by measuring students’ learning gains, which forms the conceptual basis for using value-added measures to evaluate teachers and schools, now a widely adopted practice. His recent book,The Knowledge Capital of Nations: Education and the Economics of Growth summarizes his research establishing the close links between countries’ long-term rates of economic growth and the skill levels of their populations. His current research analyzes why some countries’ school systems consistently perform better than others. He has authored or edited twenty-four books along with over 250 articles. He is a Distinguished Graduate of the United States Air Force Academy and completed his Ph.D. in economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Rob Hutter is the Founder & Managing Partner at Learn Capital where he has focused on seed, early-stage and emerging growth companies dedicated to the transformation of learning and the improvement of individual and societal capacities at scale. Rob is currently the co-founder and Chairman of Emergence.Ai, the leading research and development organization focused on autonomous intelligent agents and operates the Merlyn Mind education LLM platform.  Rob led Learn's early-stage investments in Coursera (NYSE: COUR), Udemy (NYSE: UDMY), Nerdy (NYSE: NRDY), General Assembly (SWX: ADEN), and Photomath (NASDAQ: GOOG). He currently serves on the boards of Amplify, Brilliant, Prenda, and Bloomboard as well as the AI companies Feeling Great, Superintelligent, and Brainly.

In addition, Rob was a board member or led Learn's investment in LearnZillion (acquired by Weld North), StudyEdge (acquired by Accelerate Learning), MasteryConnect (acquired by Instructure), StudySync (acquired by Weld North), Teachable (acquired by Hotmart), and Mystery Science (acquired by Discovery Education). Prior to starting Learn Capital, Rob was a Partner at Revolution Ventures, an early-stage venture investment firm and affiliate of Founders Fund. In 2022, Rob also became chairman of the Edu3 Foundation, a nonprofit which is dedicated to addressing educational inequity through digital learning scholarships.

Carmen Huynh is an Associate at Learn Capital. Prior to joining Learn, Carmen worked at Morgan Stanley where she helped develop the Firm's investment banking coverage of clients in the Charter School, Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI), and Affordable Housing Development sectors. During her tenure at Morgan Stanley, she executed a wide variety of transactions, including debt capital raises and securitizations.

Carmen is a recent graduate of Princeton University's School of Public and International Affairs, where she was awarded the Lieutenant John A. Larkin Memorial Prize for best senior thesis in the field of political economy. 


Olga Mariasina is the Strategic Support Manager at Learn Capital and Executive Assistant to Greg Mauro. Her areas of focus in the firm include corporate law, investor relations & business operations. Prior to joining Learn, Olga was a Paralegal with a focus on contracts, litigation, business development and corporate law.

Originally from St. Petersburg Russia she has been in the States over 20 years and is fluent in Russian. In her spare time Olga enjoys schutzhund dog training, volunteering at the Humane Society, writing and painting.

Greg Mauro is the Founder & Managing Partner at Learn Capital and oversees the investing practice of the firm. Greg previously managed an affiliate of Founders Fund and co-founded several venture-backed startups used by millions across the education, wireless, and media sectors.   Greg has helped lead Learn investments in companies such as Coursera, Udemy, General Assembly, OnDeck, Ascent, Wave Neuro, and MindPortal.  Greg is the co-founder of Edmodo, the world's largest social network for learning with over 100M users.   Greg also helped incubate and co-found Higher Ground Education, the world's largest Montessori operator, where he serves on the board and is the largest investor.   Greg has served on the board of NewGlobe — where Learn is also the largest investor — as the company has grown from serving one school to over 8,000, transforming the lives of over 3M students across Africa and India.  

Prior to Learn, Greg was the co-founder of Founders Fund backed SmartDrive, a WSJ Top 50 Startup that was purchased by Vista Equity;  Tachyon, a predecessor to SpaceX’s Starlink used by GE, the US Dept. of Defense, and Burning Man;  and Nextivity, a provider of coverage solutions for over 120 mobile carriers globally.  Greg’s ventures have collectively raised over $500M in venture capital.  Greg started his tenure in education in 2000 as an eight-year foundation board member for High Tech High, the ‘MIT of charter schools’, where he financed their second campus by founding a facilities fund for high-performing charter schools.  Mauro began his career as a strategy consultant for Monitor Group and is a graduate of UCLA’s College of Honors.  Greg is the owner of Powder Mountain, the largest ski resort in the United States.  Greg’s exploits — visiting over 100 countries, surfing on six continents, buying his local ski mountain — have been covered in The New York Times, Financial Times, The Atlantic, Surfer Magazine, and Ski Magazine.

Derek Moore is the Chief of Staff at Learn Capital. Prior to joining Learn, he was the second hire on the Investor Operations team at Sequoia Capital. There, he worked closely with investors and cross-functional department leads on strategic and operational initiatives that benefited the firm’s seed, venture, and growth stage funds in the US and Europe.

Previously, Derek worked on the Finance team at Sequoia, where he helped lead novel cryptocurrency efforts for the firm. He has also spent time at Netflix and PwC, and is a licensed CPA (inactive). Outside of work, Derek serves as a mentor for first-gen and low-income students with the Close the Gap Foundation, helping students bridge the opportunity gap and reach their full potential.


Dr. Roderick Nunn builds ventures that provide scalable solutions for some of the country’s hardest social challenges.   He currently is Vice President of SSM Health where he delivers integrated, comprehensive health solutions.


Previously Rod helped build and scale Concordance, the most successful program to decrease recidivism for prisoners re-entering society with full service support of mental health and job training.

Rod brings over 20 years of workforce development experience to Learn Capital. Prior to joining Concordance, he served as an executive at St. Louis Community College where he was vice chancellor of workforce solutions and campus president. Rod also previously directed the public workforce system for three Governors in Illinois and Missouri.

Rod earned a doctor of management degree from the University of Maryland Global Campus, a master of public administration degree from the University of Illinois at Springfield, and a bachelor of music degree from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville.

Eder Rocha is Controller at Learn Capital and focuses on the firm's Finance and Accounting functions. Previously, Eder served as a Controller and later as an Engagement Manager at Standish Management, where he led fund administration teams serving a variety of Venture Capital and Private Equity clients. He began his career in accounting as an Accounting Associate for Lanterman Regional Center, a private non-profit corporation.

Eder received his B.A. in Economics from UC Berkeley. He lives in South Pasadena with his wife, daughter and loving puppy, Zsa Zsa. 

Vanessa Rutstein is the CFO and CCO at Learn Capital where she oversees fund accounting, operations and compliance. She has a broad range of global experience working across private equity, venture capital, hedge funds and investment banking in London, Germany and Bermuda. 


Prior to joining Learn, Vanessa spent five years as a Senior Manager at Standish Management, where she worked on a number of venture capital, private equity and fund of fund clients. During her time at Standish, Vanessa advised on fund accounting, audit & financial reporting, compliance and management company operations.   Before joining Standish Vanessa worked as an Operations Specialist at Goldman Sachs, London, an Audit Manager at PriceWaterhouseCoopers and as a Portfolio Accountant at Cambridge Place Investment Management LLP and Everest Capital, LLC. 

Vanessa earned her Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Finance from University of Southampton (UK) , and holds an ACA qualification from the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.

Sa’ad Shah is the co-founder and managing partner of Noetic, a venture fund investing in global mental health solutions, with a focus on Central Nervous System (CNS) therapeutics, biotech, medical technology and wellness companies. This includes emerging and early-stage psychedelic-based wellness, therapeutic and pharmaceutical companies around the world.

Sa’ad has spent the last 25 years in capital markets and asset management industry with a focus on alternative investment strategies. Prior to co-founding Noetic, Sa’ad was a managing director at The Carlyle Group. Sa’ad is also a co-founder and managing partner at Grey House Partners, the general partner of the Noetic Funds. He is a member of Mensa, sits on several for-profit and non-for-profit boards, including The Necessary Angel Theatre in Toronto, and serves on the Council of Advisors for The Wende Museum in Los Angeles. Sa’ad graduated with a BA Economics and Political Science from Columbia University. He has an interest in documentary film making (Tribeca 2017), esoteric philosophies and metaphysics. He is the proud father of two daughters, and lives in Toronto.

Michael Staton is a Venture Partner at Learn Capital, where he has helped lead investments into Coursera, Minerva, and Brilliant. He previously founded and was CEO of Uversity, the pioneer of social enrollment management technology in higher education. For Uversity, he secured the first venture investment from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation’s U.S. programs into a private company.

Because of his years as a public school teacher and intuitive understanding of K-12 education, Michael served as a Venture Partner and Community Advisor to NewSchools Venture Fund’s Seed Fund, now Reach Capital. Outside of investing, he has held early roles at, befriended, and advised many education technology companies, including Dev Bootcamp and Goalbook. He was declared a top 100 innovator by the Chronicle of Higher Education, and he currently serves on the advisory board of SxSWedu and the Higher Education Working Group of the American Enterprise Institute. 

Vinit Sukhija is a Partner at Learn Capital, where he has invested in and worked closely with numerous leading global digital education companies across Learn’s seed-stage, early-stage, and growth-stage portfolio. He previously led Teach For America’s Entrepreneurship & Innovation Initiative, where he supported and invested in over 200 early-stage education entrepreneurs across the Teach For America network and was named to Forbes’ 2015 30 Under 30 in Education.

Vinit boasts a diverse range of professional experiences at the intersection of education, technology, finance, and entrepreneurship, including serving as a Senior Product Manager at Amazon, an investments fellow at The Chicago Public Education Fund, a strategy consultant for the Charter School Growth Fund, and first as a high school algebra teacher in South Los Angeles through Teach For America. He graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor’s in Economics from UC Berkeley and earned his MBA from MIT’s Sloan School of Management.

Susan Wang is a Principal at Learn Capital, where she is responsible for sourcing, researching, evaluating, and supporting early stage companies changing the ways we learn and work. Prior to joining Learn, Susan was a Senior Manager on the Strategy & Ventures team of Sesame Workshop, the creator of Sesame Street and other children’s educational programming. There, she worked on growth and strategic planning projects, and helped manage Sesame Ventures, the venture arm of the company that invests in mission-aligned early stage kids-oriented startups.

Susan began her career in investment banking at Credit Suisse after earning her BCOM and BA in Math at Queen’s University in Kingston, Canada. She has since worked in Toronto, Shanghai, New York City, and San Francisco. In her spare time, Susan enjoys reading, learning, running, singing, and journalism.
